Today we left the Pacific Coast and headed up to Mount Arenal near the Nicaragua border. Arenal is an active volcano (last eruption 1968). The journey to the high country took us through the Central Valley (north-west of San Jose). This is where most of the agriculture production is based in the high plains of C.R. – very pretty.
- Pit stop on the way up the mountains
- shrub art near Zarcero
- Look up – Monkeys looking down
- Arrive in La Fortuna only to meet some people from New Hamburg/Baden
- Arenal
- Lake Arenal
- Some of the streams we crossed (literally) along the way
- Beauty only slightly different from the coastal regions
- Beautiful trees cover the mountain-sides
- Observation point near the mountain
- Lots of hanging bridges to cross
- End of the day in Castillo – right at the base of Arenal
